Manga is a Japanese word which literally means “whimsical pictures”. Unlike other countries, manga is not categorized for children alone. In Japan, it is widely read by people irrespective of age. Also the variety caters to the needs of people of all ages which includes subjects like romance, action, adventure, sports, historical drama, comedy, fiction, among others.Some of them have even been adapted into movies. Manga is also used as an effective medium to learn the Japanese language. It is believed that Manga came into existence shortly after World War II. Since then, Manga have gained a phenomenal growth to form a major part of the Japanese publishing industry, which accounts to a whopping rise of 406 billion yen market in Japan. Japan has the largest comic industry compared to its major competitors, the United States and France. As per the sales survey, manga’s by name naruto manga, one piece manga and bleach manga are considered to be the bestsellers of 2008. It shows that one piece manga occupies the first place which is closely followed by naruto manga, while the fifth place is occupied by bleach manga. This is a testimony that Japan is the world leader in comics.
